Buyers also have options now: Pro, XLT, Flash Extended Range, Lariat Extended Range, Platinum Extended Range, and Platinum Black Extended Range. The starting price tag for the Lightning is $57,090 MSRP (including destination fee), offering greater affordability and versatility than the R1T. To clarify, each version comes with different aesthetics, ranges, and driving functions.

Horsepower, Towing, and Range Capacity

All F-150 Lightning trim levels possess the same horsepower– 462–but Extended-Range iterations accelerate up to 580. Every trim boasts all-wheel drive, and the handling is top of the line, with a low center of gravity keeping the body roll in check. 

Towing is essential for all pickup buyers, and Ford knows it. The Lightning can tow approximately 10,000 pounds, exclusive to the Extended-Range editions. Additionally, most Lightning variants get roughly 240 miles back per charge. Long-range batteries, however, can get closer to 320 miles.

Technological Amenities and Infotainment

The most notable feature of the Lightning is its bidirectional capability. For example, vehicle-to-load, vehicle-to-grid, and vehicle-to-home capabilities give the Lightning the ultimate utilitarian rating. Inside, the cabin contains a 12-inch infotainment system with SYNC 4A software. The system is user-friendly and responsive. 

Unlike the Rivian, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and GPS are all standard. There is a front trunk in the absence of the engine block with 14.1 cubic feet in capacity and ample space in the bed. Unlike the Rivian, when opened the Ford F-150 Lightning “frunk” includes the front grille area. The R1T does not, meaning more of an up-and-over lift when loading cargo.

2024 RIVIAN R1T Trims and Horsepower

The 2024 Rivian R1T blends speedy handling, utilitarian design, and efficient range. That said, some shoppers might prefer the variety and economical base price offered by the F-150 Lightning. For reference, the Rivian is only available in three trims, and its entry-level version costs a staggering $71,700 MSRP (including destination fee). Nonetheless, the upgraded Quad-Motor configuration amplifies horsepower to 835. The automobile can also tow up to 11,000 pounds, but that depletes the battery much faster.

Range and Infotainment

Buyers can select between the Standard, Large, and Max batteries, depending on range needs. Max would be the best option if drivers prioritize towing with the R1T, but customers must keep in mind that it would add at least $16,000 to the MSRP. 

The range is excellent across all the battery pack options. Standard gets 270 miles, Large gets around 352, and Max gets roughly 410 miles. Additionally, the interior provides an upscale environment, with media and climate controls, GPS, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. As mentioned, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are glaring omissions, though.
