The Ford Maverick is designed for urban dwellers who yearn for an inexpensive vehicle capable of managing light-hauling duties. Its popularity has grown to such an extent that Ford is having a challenging time meeting demand, particularly for the hybrid variant. Despite this, the brand continues to tweak the Maverick, and the 2025 model brings an array of upgrades that make it even more convenient in a highly competitive segment.

Is All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Part of the 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid?

Ford is freshening the 2025 Maverick with a feature customers have requested since the compact pickup truck’s debut three years ago (2021): an all-wheel-drive option on the hybrid engine. Indeed, a notable shortcoming of the outgoing pickup was that the popular 2.5-liter hybrid power plant could not be outfitted with all-wheel drive.

At the time, the automaker’s justification for such an approach was to minimize the Maverick’s sticker price and optimize efficiency. Nonetheless, the majority of United States buyers are willing to forgo some miles per gallon for four-season capability. To that end, Ford has now made the system optional on the hybrid for 2025.

Additionally, the hybrid is once again the entry-level engine after Ford briefly made the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine the introductory powertrain in an effort to maximize profits by making the hybrid an optional engine. Output numbers remain relatively unaltered, but it is worth noting that the 2.0-liter now generates 238 horsepower versus 250 ponies, with Ford claiming that it made the modification to adhere to California’s environmental regulations.

The difference is miniscule courtesy of the transition to all-wheel drive. That said, the hybrid eliminates its torsion beam rear suspension for a multi-link one and retains its continuously variable transmission (CVT). The 2.0-liter iteration also preserves its eight-speed automatic transmission.

The trail-ready Tremor also returns with a boost to a formal trim slotted above the Lariat. Even though that means cunning consumers will be unable to acquire the Tremor’s updates on an XLT trim, the new trim placement allows the Tremor to stand on its own and have the opportunity to make more of an impression on the Maverick automobile’s overall sales figures.

Styling Components

The exterior of the 2025 Maverick receives subtle updates, with the front fascia boasting revamped LED headlights that are more slender than before and possess a more refined C-shape. In turn, the front grille gains a marginally smaller design and new texturing. Each trim level now gets a distinct grille style, with upper-tier trims adding puddle lamps and LED projector headlamps to convey a sophisticated appearance.

With exterior changes largely remaining on the light side, Ford opted to focus the bulk of its attention on the interior. For example, higher-quality materials and new hues are applied throughout the pickup. The manufacturer also switched color schemes for some trims, such as the XLT trim’s orange accents being replaced with new Grabber Blue characteristics. The Lariat trim adds Smoked Truffle accents while a new Black appearance package for the XLT and Lariat lends the truck a more assertive identity.

High-Tech Creature Comforts

The previous generation’s 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is substituted with an all-new 13.2-inch display, now standard across all trims. It broadcasts information via Ford’s SYNC 4 system and incorporates an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster. Aside from wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the vehicle also integrates a 5G modem with wireless Internet capability. A new 360-degree camera system enhances visibility, while adaptive cruise control is standard on higher trim levels.
