The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E crossover SUV doesn’t depend entirely on the 50-year-old Mustang coupe’s prestigious name; it’s more about an understated link than the brazen, racing aspect of the classic pony car. Nonetheless, readers shouldn’t disregard the battery-electric Mach-E. Its dynamics for something so ponderous are astoundingly more polished than one might expect from a car tipping the scales at approximately two-and-a-half tons. The lineup addresses different preferences with distinguished trims: the affordable introductory-level Select, the high-tech-loaded Premium, the long-range California Route 1, and the high-performance GT trims that smoothly combine power with features.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E’s Potent Motor
The 2024 Mustang Mach-E is available with either a standard-range 72-kilowatt-hour battery or an extended-range 91-kilowatt-hour pack. These power a single electric motor on the rear-wheel-drive iterations of the Select and Premium trims or a motor on each axle in the all-wheel-drive versions of all trims.
For context, the single e-motor two-wheel-drive standard-range Select and Premium trims accelerate up to 264 horsepower and generate 387 pound-feet of torque. In turn, the dual e-motor all-wheel-drive variants deliver roughly 325 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The single e-motor two-wheel extended-range has an output of 290 horsepower and 387 pound-feet of torque.
Meanwhile, the dual e-motor extended-range trims churn out 365 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque in the Select and Premium. The dual e-motor all-wheel-drive-only GT increases those numbers to 480 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque with an optional Performance Upgrade package producing a staggering 700 pound-feet of torque.
How Many Miles Does a Mach-E Get on a Full Charge?
In 2023, Ford launched a new battery chemistry for particular Mach-E trims outfitted with the smaller standard-sized pack. The EPA-estimated range for the complete lineup spans from 230-320 miles on a single charge, depending on the number of electric motors and the battery pack’s size. That is a competitive figure in the electric SUV segment.
When compared, the extended-range option bolsters the range considerably. It boasts a 70-mile or 28 percent boost compared to the standard-range battery. Indeed, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E has 10 miles more EPA range than the 2023 model-year vehicle, up three percent.
Each 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E has fast-charging capability. The available mobile home charging system, when connected to a regular 120-volt household outlet, can provide “up to 30 miles of range per night,” claimed the Blue Oval’s experts. For electric vehicle owners searching for a more powerful home charging solution, connecting the mobile component to a 240-volt outlet allows it to recharge up to 80 percent of the battery capacity “overnight.”
