Buyers of the all-new 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning will be excited to know that the American brand has included smart technologies to calculate the remaining vehicle range using real-time conditions for more accuracy so that towing is more efficient and easier. The brand has said that the more it’s used, the more accurate the system becomes. As of now, Ford has said that the F-150 Lightning will boast a towing capacity of up to 10,000 lbs with the 775 lb-ft of electric torque, and the added brains within the technology allow customers to confidently tow the way they’re accustomed to doing with other vehicles in similar distances.

That’s why we created smart technologies to help take the worry out of towing long distances by giving customers more reliable and accurate range calculations, and then automatically locate charge points along the way if needed.” was what Linda Zhang, chief engineer, F-150 Lightning had to say about the new electric truck.
Ford will present exclusive technologies like the Intelligent Range and FordPass Power My Trip plus the available class-exclusive Onboard Scales that will work to seamlessly give drivers the most accurate vehicle range based on their actual towing experience as well as real-time energy that has been used. Trailer Profile will also now remember their trailer specifics so this new system can associate energy use with each unique trailer.
Zhang also added that “Whether you’re towing with a gas-powered or electric truck, range degradation as a percentage is basically the same – determined primarily by overall cargo and trailer weight at low speeds and by the aerodynamic profile at higher speeds. That’s why we expanded the capabilities of Intelligent Range on the F-150 Lightning with the available Onboard scales to also measure the load effects of trailers and cargo to further refine range calculations when towing.”

Zhang says that the brand believes they will be able to break any myths about towing with an electric truck that may have racked up by giving buyers incredibly accurate range assessments and reliable charge tools for efficient towing so that the world can embrace the added benefits that the F-150 Lightning will provide. She also added, “As they get accustomed to how Intelligent Range and Power My Trip work, they’ll naturally adjust their routines – whether that’s stopping for lunch and a DC fast charge or finding a route that simplifies their drive.”
