In a remarkable start to the year, Ford Motor Company has announced robust sales figures for the first quarter of 2024, buoyed by a surge in demand for hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) across its diverse product portfolio. The company’s strategic focus on offering customers a vast lineup of choices spanning electric, hybrid, and gas vehicles has proven to be a winning formula, catapulting Ford to the forefront of the automotive industry.

Amid the backdrop of Ford’s commitment to providing customers with freedom of choice, the brand reported a seven percent increase in sales for Ford and Lincoln vehicles, outpacing the overall industry. Of note, the Ford Maverick emerged as America’s top-selling hybrid truck in the first quarter of 2024, with sales soaring by 77 percent year-over-year to reach 19,660 units. Overall, Ford successfully sold 38,421 hybrid vehicles in the quarter. The company anticipates this upward trend in hybrid sales to persist as it introduces more variants of the new F-150 hybrid to dealerships. This feat highlights Ford’s success in attracting new customers to its brand through innovative offerings in the hybrid segment.

Embracing Diversity

Andrew Frick, President of Ford Blue, expressed Ford’s dedication to providing buyers with a wide range of choices, aligning with the expanding preferences of contemporary drivers: “With the new F-150 and all-new Ranger sales beginning in March (2024) along with the strong performance of our all-new Lincoln Nautilus and Nautilus Hybrid, we’re in a strong position to capitalize and grow as we move through 2024.” He added, “And that’s before customers experience services like Pickup & Delivery and Mobile Service – now totaling 250,000 U.S. experiences a month – and technologies like BlueCruise.”

Starting the 2024 model year on a high note, Ford established itself as the premier truck manufacturer in the United States, dominating van and pickup truck segments. For example, the Ford Maverick continued to outperform its competitors, including Toyota’s Tacoma, securing its position as America’s favorite midsize pickup. Moreover, the new F-150 experienced a strong quarter, with 152,943 units sold. Ford brand SUVs also saw their best quarter ever, with total sales reaching 216,997 units, marking a 15 percent increase from the previous year (2023). Among these, the Ford Explorer stood out as America’s preferred three-row SUV with 58,465 units sold.

Future Growth

On the electric vehicle front, Ford reported a strong start to the year, with electric vehicle sales surging by 86 percent in the first quarter (2024). The F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E developed into standout performers, underscoring Ford’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions. Commercial vehicle sales for Ford also demonstrated positive momentum. Transit van sales rose by 25 percent, while overall commercial van sales increased by 19 percent in Q1. The launch of the all-new 2024 Ford Ranger in March further expanded the manufacturer’s robust product lineup.

Looking ahead, Ford is optimistic about its growth trajectory with upcoming launches such as the Expedition and Explorer. Not only that, the Ford Pro division’s concentration on commercial customers is yielding results with an increasing transition toward electric vehicles. It is worth noting that over 40 percent of 2024 F-150 Lightning orders have come from repeat buyers, indicating satisfaction and strong brand loyalty among Ford’s clientele.
