The 2024 Ford Expedition offers an ideal blend of comfort, performance, and technology at its core. Whether it is for family road trips or the daily commute, the 2024 Ford Expedition is prepared. In the most straightforward description, this Expedition is a large, capable, and comfortable three-row SUV with the towing abilities of a pickup truck. Readers should think of it as a seven- or eight-seat station wagon that can haul the family around during the week and tow the boat to the lake on weekends.

As with previous generations, buyers can order this vehicle as an Expedition or an Expedition Max. Both variants provide seating for up to eight occupants. That said, with a foot-longer body and commensurately longer wheelbase, the Max has a roomier cargo compartment behind the third-row seat, with 34.3 cubic feet of space. When outfitted with the optional Heavy Duty Towing Package, the standard-length Ford Expedition has a maximum tow rating of 9,300 pounds. To that end, Kelley Blue Book has named the 2024 Ford Expedition the Full-Size SUV Best Buy for the seventh consecutive year.

Performance Evaluation

Where several rivals have switched to smaller turbocharged engines, the Ford Expedition retains a thrumming twin-turbo V-6 that displaces 3.5 liters for outputs of 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. These figures increase to 400 ponies and 480 pound-feet of torque in the Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum trims, or 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque in the Timberline. Every trim makes use of an exceptional ten-speed automatic transmission, and aside from the four-wheel drive Timberline, customers receive a choice between a rear- or four-wheel drivetrain.

Even though performance is not a key factor in a large SUV like this, it only takes between five and six seconds for the Ford Expedition to go from zero to 60 miles per hour, depending on trim. Instead, it excels at off-road exploits thanks to its highly adaptable transfer case and open center differential. It is an extremely large and heavy vehicle, though, so maneuvering it on the road can be challenging. However, according to sources, “Going off-road is easier in the Expedition. Available Trail Control and 1-Pedal Drive manage the throttle and brakes, allowing you to focus on navigating the trail. Trail Turn Assist can make the Expedition’s turning radius tighter.”

Infotainment

When buyers spend $55,525 MSRP (Plus $1,895 destination fee) on a new SUV, they should expect a decent helping of features, even in the introductory-level trim. For the Expedition, this is the XL STX, equipped with an eight-way power driver’s seat, cruise control, keyless entry and start, and tri-zone climate control. The infotainment is accessed through a 12-inch touchscreen unit and comprises wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, navigation, and Wi-Fi capability, all paired with a six-speaker sound system. Moving up the trim ladder to the XLT comes with SiriusXM and more USB ports in the third row. Additionally, the third row now boasts an auto-dimming rearview mirror, as well as power recline.

A ten-way power driver’s seat and wireless charging are added at the Timberline level, while the Limited gets a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, power-deployable running boards, and HD Radio. Nearing the top of the lineup, the King Ranch adds a massive 15.5-inch touchscreen display, a panoramic moonroof, and 22 Bang & Olufsen speakers. Multi-contour front seats with ventilation, heating, and massage round out the list for the Platinum trim.
