Ford plans to open the Ford Atlanta Research and Innovation Center (FARIC) to help aid the company advance in digital transformation within areas like artificial intelligence, university research, software-led connected vehicles, and more! The innovation center will join a network of Ford research facilities in Tel Aviv and Palo alto that is specifically dedicated to leading the future of transportation with connected, automated, and electric vehicles. Choosing to put this center in Atlanta gives Ford the chance to be within one of the most versatile technology talent markets in America. This gives the automaker the opportunity to develop a pipeline of software experts with a wide array of backgrounds.

More About the Center and its Contributions
Jim Buczkowski, executive director for Ford Research, Advanced Engineering shared this statement about the center “Ford is transitioning from a traditional automotive company to a digital products and services company driven by software innovation. There’s a high demand for tech talent across industries, and we have an opportunity to create non-traditional career pathways to attract and develop the expertise needed to stay competitive.” Mayor Andre Dickens also added “Atlanta continues to attract and grow tech companies and startups, and we continue to attract a desirable talent base — particularly for Black tech talent. We look forward to this partnership with the Ford Atlanta Research and Innovation Center, which has the potential to help us grow an even more robust and diverse pipeline.”

The innovation center will not only serve as a hub and deliver software solutions, but the team dedicated to FARIC will also be focusing on increasing Black, Hispanic and female representation within high technology and software engineering careers. Ford will implement many strategies in order to achieve this goal, and they will also have new workplace design standards, and take part in the Atlanta City:One Challenge. The workplace design is said to surpass run-of-the-mill ADA compliance in order to achieve a layout that is inclusive, flexible, innovative, and increases collaboration. The Atlanta City:One Challenge is a crowd-sourcing platform that Ford created to help cities determine mobility solutions molded to address systemic mobility inequality, safety, sustainability, and accessibility issues.
