Ford Produces Charger for the F-150 Lighnting and Other Vehicles!

One of the most unique features that the Ford F-150 Lightning has to offer is the ability to not only power a home, but it can also charge other Electric Vehicles with the help of an adapter that can even charge Teslas if need be!
The Charger and Adapter in Depth
A customer that received their Ford F-150 Lightning recently now that the orders have been shipped out has reported the surprise inclusion of the adapter within their package. The adapter is a small device that can accept the J1772 plug (exactly like the one that is on Ford’s portable charger), yet can adapt itself to the unique plug design that is used by Tesla’s vehicles. That being said, this means that when the Ford Mobile Charger is hooked up to the Pro Power Onboard power supply right in the rear of the F-150 Lightning; it’s very much possible to charge up a Tesla no matter how low the battery may be.
Getting the Ford Mobile Charger to get hooked up to the F-150 Lightning’s onboard 240 V supply also requires an adapter of its own so it can connect the NEMA14-50R plug to the NEMA L14-30P 240 V in the back of the vehicle. The factory documentation does note that this specific adapter is not supplied, however, the customer who received their vehicle did note that one did come included with their vehicle. The Pro Power Onboard starts its output at 240V and can handle up to 9.6kW and this allows the Ford Mobile Charger to run at a 7kW charge rate. This gives it the capability to charge 20 miles per hour, enough to get even a completely dead vehicle back up and running in no time.
A Ford spokesperson mentioned that these charger adapters were included with the first trucks that were shipped out to allow the first owners of the F-150 Lightning to “lend a hand if needed” which may mean that this won’t be a permanent inclusion. Nonetheless, it is a very handy inclusion to have in the back of the truck. It definitely goes to show that Ford knows how to get the word out about this special surprise inclusion. Whether this inclusion will cost extra in the near future is unclear at the moment, but it is something to look forward to and consider as an option!
