It’s unsurprising that Ford keeps dominating the full-size truck segment. It’s been this way for over half a century. To maintain its “best-in-class” claims year after year, Ford adopted crucial updates for the 2023 Super Duty.
Is Ford Altering the 2023 Super Duty?
The exterior changes to the 2023 model are modest but meaningful. The list includes:
- A revised front fascia
- A new tailgate
- Modified wheels
- Renovated tail lights
- Ford designers were even inspired by General Motors (GM) and incorporated corner steps to the rear bumper.
The interior embraces distinct but equally subtle alterations. A portion of the dashboard was redesigned to integrate the 12.3-inch center touchscreen and digital instrument cluster, both of which are more responsive and ergonomic than GM’s systems. In terms of comfort, the Super Duty’s cabin minimizes noise and sports comfortably snug seats. Moreover, fit and finish, together with the suite of accouterments on King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims are unmatched. These are tried-and-true upscale trucks that can excite with convenience and capability alike.
Beneath the Hood of the 2023 Super Duty Lineup
While many American customers select the diesel burner, gasoline V-8 powertrains undoubtedly have a place in 2023 heavy-duty pickup trucks. In 2023, Ford was the only automaker to provide two, including a new-for-2023 6.8-liter V-8 power plant accelerating up to 405 horsepower and generating 445 pound-feet of torque. The 7.3-liter V-8 engine is a superb performer, ideally paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
That said, the high-output diesel iteration is staggeringly capable, producing 500 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque. Engineers obtained these numbers by retooling the exhaust manifolds, turbocharger, and Electronic Control Unit (ECU), establishing further distance from rivals.
Ford Super Duty Includes Customer Appreciation
Considerable thought was given to how to make the pickup commercially viable. For example, an F-450 Super Duty with a high-output 6.7-liter diesel engine and Gooseneck Tow Package boasts a phenomenal towing capacity of 40,000 pounds. The truck remains unflappable even when towing at the maximum limit and handling the most grueling type of abuse. The manufacturer went so far as to devise solutions to make one-man tasks more practical.
Backing up a trailer in a tight spot is challenging, but the Blue Oval specifically designed the Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature to increase this undertaking’s feasibility. The owner merely needs to choose a location on the screen where they want the trailer to go and the pickup takes charge, only leaving the driver with control of the throttle.
Hitching a trailer is just as simple with the assistance of a rotary controller to the right of the steering wheel. Blind spot and obstacle detection are also available, even when reversing with the tailgate down. The safety features are there to reduce the possibility of a collision when towing.
