Ford’s 2024 Mustang Mach-E Receives Improvements to Put Competitors on Alert

Ford is rolling out numerous improvements to its electric Mustang Mach-E crossover SUV for the 2024 model year. Headlining the updates is a new Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Upgrade that enables the electric pony car to outpace key rivals like the Tesla Model Y Performance and the upcoming Porsche Macan electric vehicle. Donna Dickson, the Chief Engineer of the Mustang Mach-E SUV, promised the brand would listen to its customers and integrate the feedback into the vehicle for the enhanced 2024 model year. That includes higher DC fast charging speeds and additional range, greater performance, more options, plus “a new electric pony for our growing stable that can take you off-road when you want to get your Mustang a little dirty.”
The Performance Upgrade
In terms of performance, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is allegedly quicker than the Tesla Model Y Performance. Indeed, when equipped with the $995 Performance Upgrade, the sprint from zero to 60 miles per hour is a stunning 3.3 seconds, less than a Model Y Performance or a Macan 4 Electric. Thanks to a new in-house eMotor, there is an additional 100 pound-feet of torque compared to standard Mustang Mach-E GT SUVs, so it also cracks the quarter-mile time in 11.8 seconds while accelerating up to 114 miles per hour.
The Performance Upgrade is optional on GT trims and standard on the all-new Mustang Mach-E Rally. It is worth noting that the former receives the Ford Performance front seats, Brembo front brake calipers, and MagneRide Damping System as standard equipment while previously they were offered only on the 2023 Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition. Moreover, the new rear eMotor is lighter and offered as standard across the entire lineup with improved torque.
Quicker Charging Time
Speaking of upgrades, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E trims with the optional extended range battery charge up to 20 percent quicker at DC fast charging stations for 10-80 percent in approximately 36.2 minutes, an admirable 8.8 minutes more swiftly than before. Meanwhile, standard-range battery offerings are 5.7 minutes faster than the Mustang Mach-E at launch. The charging improvements are supported by range increases of 10-20 miles throughout the Mustang Mach-E lineup.
For example, the Mustang Mach-E GT gets a 10-mile range increase to 280 miles. The mid-tier Mach-E Premium with the extended battery and rear-wheel drive now has a 320-mile EPA-estimated range, a 20-mile improvement. Of note, the Mach-E Premium currently outperforms the all-wheel-drive Model Y Long Range by ten miles on a single charge.
The pricing situation is also comparable or slightly favorable to the Mustang Mach-E. The Select rear-wheel drive trim has a price tag of $39,995 MSRP (Plus destination fee), while the Tesla Model Y rear-wheel drive starts from $44,990 MSRP (Plus destination fee). There are several tiers thanks to Select, Premium, GT, and Rally trims, with the latter outfitted with a one-inch raised suspension, rally-inspired appearance wheels, spoilers, tires, and a stripe package.
