On November 29, 2023, Sydney Sweeney–onscreen actress, offscreen fashion’s popular car girl–re-teamed with Ford Motor Company for another workwear collaboration. Sweeney was previously the face of a spring Ford x Dickies campaign, and the Euphoria star’s first collection with the duo sold out in under 36 hours. The latest collection should inspire similar fervor.
To clarify, Sweeney’s first foray into the fast life came earlier this year (2023) when the automotive-loving actress partnered with Ford and Dickies for a range of workwear pieces inspired by her 1969 Ford Bronco, which she was restoring while documenting the process on her Syd’s Garage TikTok account. This time around Sweeney looked to her vintage Ford Mustang named Britney to inspire a second collaborative capsule collection.
The Incentive Behind an Automotive Capsule Collection
The five-item collection draws inspiration from her 1965 Mustang, as well as Ford’s “Brittany Blue” color, first introduced by the car manufacturer in the 1960s. The blue hue–as well as Syd’s Garage’s logo–is infused throughout all pieces of the capsule, which spans ribbed coveralls, a corduroy hat, a khaki racing jacket, a keychain, and a cropped t-shirt.
In a unique move, Sweeney assembled an all-female team of drivers to photograph the lookbook for the series. This effort divides work roles, aiming to encourage the emergence of car girls worldwide. Auto-restoration enthusiasts Gelica Peralta, Lauren Fox, Adri Law, Isabelle Rosa, and Sandy Rancatore showcase the lineup. As such, the team will appear in the online lookbook modeling the apparel, which will be available for purchase at Ford’s merchandise page merchandise.ford.com. The lookbook even includes a guide with instructions on basic vehicle maintenance.
Statements About Cooperation
The instructions in the guide incorporate how to change a car battery and how to check brake fluid, tire pressure, and oil. The brand is well aware of the significance of how knowledge promotes independence, and that is exactly what it seeks to achieve with the lookbook. As explained by Erica Martin, Ford marketing communications manager, “For nearly 60 years, Mustang has represented freedom and self-expression. Collaborating with Sydney and her love for her 1965 Mustang celebrates what that can look like. For Sydney, it meant embracing a new hobby to restore the vehicle of her dreams, and designing a clothing line that makes women feel comfortable and empowered to do the same.”
Championing the rise of car girls everywhere, Sydney Sweeney shared her enthusiasm for the project, commenting, “I love working in the garage and was so excited to partner with Ford on a clothing line that’s comfortable in and out of the shop.” She added, “I was so thrilled that Ford wanted to use auto enthusiasts to model the clothing and create content that teaches people how to do basic maintenance tasks on their vehicles. Being able to take my car into my own hands has been so empowering for me – and I hope this can inspire others who may have never considered working on their vehicle themselves to give it a try.”
Sweeney’s love for Ford dates back to her days learning to drive her grandfather’s Ford pickup truck, and it looks like her passion for vintage vehicles–and the accompanying gear–will not slow down anytime soon.
