Every muscle car enthusiast has their eyes on the new-generation Dodge Charger, offered with battery-electric power in an outstanding premiere, next to the internal combustion engine models. However, it will have to be marvelous to steal the sales crown from its arch-rival, the Ford Mustang. The Ford Mustang stands as a testament to versatility, as it seamlessly fits into the sports car category with an ease that belies its muscle car stature.

With the release of the 2024 Ford Mustang, this American icon is not only celebrating its 60th anniversary but also marking its position as America’s final V-8-powered muscle car, outlasting the Dodge Challenger and the Chevrolet Camaro. The Mustang sports car’s unique position in the market and its enduring appeal have kept it in the spotlight. It caters to a wide range of enthusiasts who appreciate its performance and its legacy.

The Continuing Reign of the Mustang

The Ford Mustang starts its new chapter in an enviable position, holding the title of America’s best-selling sports car and enjoying a decade-long run as the top-selling sports car globally. According to a press release from the automaker, over 59,000 customers took delivery of a Mustang in 2023, contributing to the nearly 1 million pony cars delivered in the past decade. Indeed, the Ford Mustang remains an unsurpassed symbol of sports car heritage and American muscle. As it races into its seventh decade, the spirit of the Mustang roars defiantly, promising to keep the legacy of America’s beloved pony car alive for generations to come.

The 2024 model, heralding the start of the seventh generation, has sales kicking off in North America and plans to reach customers in China, Europe, Australia, and South America. For reference, Jeff Marentic, General Manager of North America/Global Truck, Family, and Enthusiast Vehicles, offered perspective on the scope of the vehicle’s sales success, stating, “We’ve sold more Mustangs in our history than the population of major cities like Chicago, London, or Seoul.” He added, “As we get set to celebrate Mustang’s 60th anniversary, that same passion and excitement continues with our seventh-generation Mustang, now headed to customers in 85 markets around the world.”

Design Tweaks

The all-new, seventh-generation Mustang is more than merely a car; it is a chapter in a storied legacy that has captivated hearts worldwide. Whether convertible or coupe body styles, V-8 or turbocharged four-cylinder engines, manual or automatic transmissions, the Mustang offers something for every buyer. From its sonorous engines to its sleek design, this model embodies the spirit of the original while pushing the boundaries of what a pony car can be.

It is worth noting that the Blue Oval claims it will debut a special logo in New York adorned in Vermillion Red and Ebony Black colors. Inspired by the wheel center caps and badging of the original Mustang shown at the 1964 World’s Fair at the New York Auto Show, it will be joined by an exclusive feature that is said to launch on the new-generation Mustang muscle cars around April 17, 2024. Owners will need to turn on “Automatic Software Updates” in the “Settings” menu through their vehicle’s SYNC 4 touchscreen to receive this special feature.
