Ford finally revealed what they had under wraps for the 2023 Super Duty pickup trucks and showed off a refreshed vehicle. It boasted upgraded interiors, a squared-off face with bold grilles, and a now-available 12.0-inch touchscreen. New to the pickup is a 6.8-liter gas-powered V8 engine that joins forces with the gas-powered 7.3-liter V8 and diesel-fed 6.7-liter V8 engine. Ford has now also announced the official towing ratings for the ‘23 Super Duty lineup. These ratings completely blow all competition out of the water with the fierce maximum available 40,000 lbs of towing capacity! It’s not called Super Duty for nothing!
About the Super Duty Lineup – Towing Capacity and Other Specs
This 40,000-lb towing capacity figure is specifically for the most significant Ford F-450 pulling a gooseneck trailer. This puts Ford way ahead of its heavy-duty competitors like the Chevrolet Silverado HD (which tops out at 36,000 lbs) or the Ram HD (which tops out at 37,090 lbs). Even stepping into the lower trim (the Ford F-350) allows drivers to tow 38,000 lbs via the gooseneck trailer, which is still more than the top trim for competitors. Ford has also claimed that it offers the best in class paired with a conventional towing setup, maxing out at 30,000 lbs. The Blue Oval also states that the Super Duty tops out at an 8,000-lb payload, more than a few hundred pounds higher than competitors like Chevy and Ram.
Another component of the Super Duty lineup that Ford has revealed is the horsepower and torque ratings for the 2023 model year. The specs are as follows:
- The 6.8-liter offers 405 horsepower and 445 lb.-ft of torque.
- The 7.3-liter offers 430 horsepower and 485 lb.-ft of torque.
- The 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 diesel offers two different outputs:
- The standard offers 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb.-ft of torque.
- The High Output offers a whopping 500 horsepower with 1,200 lb.-ft of torque.
All vehicles are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive is standard for the XLT trim and up.
Among all the phenomenal specs, the Super Duty lineup will also offer technology to make towing easier. Features like Pro Trailer Hitch Assist (meant to assist drivers in affixing the hitch ball to the receiver), the optional 360-degree camera, and the onboard scales to help even out weight distribution within the vehicle. Ford has also added a specific trailer navigation setting that will assist in choosing the best route for towing. The starting Super Duty lineup will have a starting price of $45,765 (Plus Destination Fee), with deliveries beginning early next year!
