The World’s Best Selling Car: the Ford Mustang!

This past Sunday, April 17th, 2022, Mustang Celebrated its 58th birthday and it came with the best gift! For the seventh year in a row, Ford Mustang is the world’s best-selling sports coupe, according to the Ford analysis of registration data from S&P Global Mobility. Mustang continues to hold its crown from 2021 ushered by the apex of its 5.0-liter V8 performance, the Mustang Mach 1, as well as the Mustang Shelby GT500, the most powerful street-legal Ford and most advanced Mustang to exist.
Kumar Galhorta, President of Ford Blue had this to say, “When enthusiasts around the world get into a Mustang, they unlock that feeling of freedom and experience the open road. That feeling, along with iconic design, awesome powertrains, and a passionate global community all contribute to making Mustang a sales leader for the seventh year in a row.”
What Makes Mustang Special
Ford’s International data shows that the United States remains the highest demanding country when it comes to the Mustang, making up 76 percent of the global sales it sees. Though the United States is home to the highest demand, other countries have also seen growth in sales of Mustang in 2021 which include New Zealand (with 54.3 percent), Brazil (with 37.3 percent), and South Korea (with 16.6 percent). Customers who wanted a Mustang of their very own were able to order them, therefore doubling the sales of Mustangs within 2021, which is more than the year prior.
It is expected that the momentum will only continue to grow with the all-new lineup of the five special edition vehicles that they have released. Within the lineup are, Mustang Ice White (which is also available on the Mustang Mach-E), the Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition, the GT California Special, the Coastal Limited Edition, the Coastal Limited, and the Stealth. For Muscle Car enthusiasts, Mustang has included a special edition at every performance level just for them in the Mustang EcoBoost and the Shelby GT500.
New and Refreshing Additions
This 2022, Mustang will receive an additional eight color options, including the Ford Performance-exclusive Code Orange on the Shelby GT500, and the Shelby GT500 Heritage along with the Coastal Limited models will see the return of the crowd favorite Brittany Blue Metallic color. Additional colorways will be available for the entirety of the lineup, and will include Atlas Blue Metallic, Cyber Orange Metallic Tri-Coat, Dark Matter Gray Metallic, European Green Metallic, Grabber Blue Metallic, and Mischievous Purple Metallic!
The newest member of the Mustang Family, the Mach-E, has also seen successful sales this past year in 2021 and was one of the hottest products at Ford. Even with the impressive sales, that isn’t the only positive news the Mach-E received this past year. The Mustang Mach-E also earned itself a trophy-case worth of press awards that included the extremely coveted North American Utility Vehicle of the Year honor, Car and Driver’s 2021 EV of the Year, 2021 Wards Best Award, 2022 Kelly Blue Book Best Buy Award, and was recently named a finalist in the 2022 World Car of Year!
