What’s to come to the 2023 Ford Expedition?

The 2022 Ford Expedition received a significant refresh for its model year, so it’s possible that the 2023 Expedition won’t receive a lot of changes; however, there was an expectation that a hybrid engine would make an appearance for this model year. Whether it does truly make it for this coming model year is yet to be known, but there are other engines for the largest SUV in Ford’s catalog, and here’s a more in-depth look at them. 

Ford’s PowerBoost hybrid engine was the one that was expected as it is already available for the F-150. However, it remains unclear if the PowerBoost V6 will be available for the 2023 model year. If a hybrid engine graces the 2023 Expedition, it seems similar to the one on the F-150. Without the hybrid engine, however, there are still three competent engines that the ‘23 Expedition will use.

• A 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 produces 380 horsepower with 470 lb-ft of torque (standard on the Expedition).
• The Limited trim offers the EcoBoost V6 with 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.
• The Timberline trim offers a high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 440-500 horsepower and over 500 lb-ft of torque.

The PowerBoost V6 that lies within the Ford F-150 garners around 430 horsepower, but that can be increased depending on where Ford wants to position it. It is also possible that one of the current EcoBoost V6 engines get dropped to make space for the PowerBoost, but no news has fully come out about that just yet, or which one might get cut for it. Currently, a ten-speed automatic transmission is mated to all three EcoBoost engines. The Timberline comes standard with AWD (All-Wheel Drive), and the other Expedition trims are paired with two-wheel drive; however, they can all still be paired with AWD!

Thanks to its chassis (based on the Ford F-150’s), it drives and handles like America’s favorite truck and gives it a unique unibody that differs from the ford Explorer. All Expedition trims will come in two body styles: the standard version and the Expedition Max. The Max adds a foot when it comes to size in comparison to the standard, and it can accommodate up to eight people. Pricing has not been released for the 2023 model year Expedition, but production is set to start in November 2022.
