As hundreds of owners converge on Moab, Utah, for the 2023 Bronco Safari event, Ford has just unveiled a new off-roading companion application exclusively for Ford Bronco owners. Known as the Bronco Trail App on both Apple iOS and Android devices, the new service aims to facilitate the off-roading experience with thousands of curated trail maps, topographic maps, and point-of-interest markers right at the tips of the driver’s fingers. The Bronco Trail App houses more than 1,200 professionally curated trail maps that span more than 18,000 miles across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Indeed, to fully understand the road ahead, each trail has a helpful description that can be saved for future outings.

The Trail Map Experience

Every trail map comes equipped with a difficulty rating, as well as specifics about overall length and trailhead areas. Moab makes for an ideal location to launch the app, as several of the place’s more challenging sections are featured for new users. Ford announced that it plans to expand the number of routes provided with future updates to the system. As a matter of fact, Matt Winter, Bronco Brand Manager, expressed the advantages to be garnered from the Trail App: “The Bronco Trail App is the perfect companion for those looking to get the most out of their Bronco, especially when they go off the beaten path. We know our customers value the time they take to go out there and get away from it all, and this app offers them an easy way to share the exciting experiences they have and connect with other off-roaders.”

Should the trail guides not provide the off-road enthusiast with sufficient information, the app also comes backed by 2D topographic maps and satellite imagery. A driver can easily download these maps ahead of time if they plan to push beyond the boundaries of cellular service, which is a nice touch for those who rely on their Bronco for overlanding. The app can also be used to set points of interest on the map, which can be convenient for sharing trail conditions with others and return visits.

Handy Features

In addition, the app is host to some other beneficial elements, including the ability to set the vehicle’s tire pressure targets from within the app. The system also supports video capture, complete with overlay data like revolutions per minute (RPM), elevation, speed, and distance traveled, among other metrics. These videos are automatically saved to the individual’s cell phone for simple sharing across forums and social media outlets.

The Utility of a FordPass Account

As mentioned, the Bronco Trail App is currently available for both iOS and Android devices in the Apple App Store and Google Play. Owners simply have to download the app and link their FordPass account to unlock all of the features currently being provided. Considering how sought-after these types of apps are among the off-roading community, it is no surprise to see an automotive manufacturer like Ford want to get involved in the development of such products. Hopefully, that will result in more Bronco owners feeling confident enough to get out there and drive off the beaten path for themselves.

The Blue Oval is enhancing the off-roading experience by allowing an app to gauge trails rather than having the customer do it. In other words, off-roading becomes less of a chore for new enthusiasts and more of the adrenaline-pumping undertaking it is meant to be.
