Ford Pro Shows Buyers How to Never Lose Your Tools Again

In the workplace, it is always possible to misplace work tools or equipment, especially in the tradesmen field. Ford has created the best solution for this issue by collaborating with engineers at the Ford Pro in Germany to create tracking devices that can easily be installed into any piece of equipment from machines to tools. The tracking devices will come with Bluetooth connectivity and GPS tracking for easy and seamless tracking of tools and machines. The devices will even be able to connect to company vehicles and to a central server so that employees can see where their items are located at all times.
Supervisor of CV Ecosystems, Research, and Advanced Engineering at Ford of Europe, Walter Pijls had this to say “Even the most attentive worker can leave behind a toolbox at the end of a long day or forget a hand tool when rushing to another job. On busy sites, tools can sometimes get mixed up or be stolen if left overnight. As work projects often have tight schedules, spending time to replace lost equipment can cause a cascade of problems, with every delay costing time and money.” The Ford company has said that they have noticed many businesses and companies lose around $447 worth of work tools or equipment per work vehicle on average in Germany. As soon as Ford has conducted more research within other markets, they will begin to manufacture and release the tracking service for workplace use.
Ford has also stated that each employee from a specific company can effortlessly keep track of all tools by using a dedicated smartphone or tablet, a computer, or even the in-car screen of any work vehicle. The devices can be tracked via a live map that will show the location of every piece of a company’s equipment or tools. They can even be searched for and located based on specific descriptions like ‘vehicle’, tool type’, ‘storage’, and ‘tool name’. Tools can also be listed as ‘broken’, ‘in maintenance’, and ‘working’ directly. Ford has also said that having a full list of the tools that a work vehicle has will allow for more efficient checking of the vehicle’s inventory. This will help make things simpler and more efficient when it comes to transporting tools and equipment between sites while also making job planning easier.
As of now, Ford wants to conduct more research so there is no official release date on this service or information on if it will be offered in more countries outside of Germany, so stay tuned for more updates to come!
