Assembled in Kentucky, the Ford Escape was improved in the 2022 model year with a significantly better-looking exterior, a revised interior, and a new trim lineup that included a plug-in hybrid model. For 2024, Fordās compact unit-body SUV remains largely unchanged, still boasting a 60/40 fold-down seat that slides and provides exceptional rear legroom. That said, there has been one minor lineup modification.Ā
Some models have dropped their base trim from the lineup, including the 2024 Ford Bronco Sport crossover and Ford Bronco SUV. This move should allow Ford Motor Company to streamline the assembly process of the Bronco, thus cutting customer wait time. Reducing certain complexity has been a consistent effort seen by Ford for 2024 model year products, as automakers seek equilibrium between supply chain issues, customer demand, and order mix. However, that is not the case with the 2024 Ford Escape introductory-level trim. While it continues to be available, it will be an exclusive trim for fleet consumers, not retail ones.Ā
The New Lineup
With the base Escape now sold only as a fleet vehicle, the Escape Active is the new entry-level trim for 2024. The automobile has one engine: a turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine that generates 181 horsepower and produces 190 pound-feet of torque. Customers can order it with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.Ā
Thanks in part to the availability of a 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine that delivers 250 horsepower, plus the fuel-efficient hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains that employ a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine, the 2024 Ford Escape competes with a vast array of SUVs like the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 among others.
The 2024 Ford Escape Active
As mentioned, apart from the base trim being shifted to fleet-only sales, not much has changed with the Ford Escape for 2024, arriving predominantly as a carryover model. Race Red has been added to the color palette, while Atlas Blue and Cinnabar Red have been discontinued. While the Ford Escape Active is the price leader for 2024, that does not mean it is stripped of convenient features.Ā
On the contrary, dual-zone automatic climate control comes standard, as does a power liftgate, an eight-way power driverās seat with power lumbar support, rear-seat USB charging ports, and upgraded cloth upholstery. In addition, illuminated vanity mirrors come standard, as does SiriusXM 360L, and a sliding rear seat with cup holders and a fold-down center armrest.
Aesthetically, the 2024 Ford Escape profits from 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, body-color door handles, chrome window moldings, and dark-tinted rear privacy glass. Fordās Intelligent Access lets owners unlock the doors by touching the handle. Indeed, this Escape can also start with the push of a button, not the twist of a key.Ā
Technological Attributes
For an additional $995, Tech Pack 1 is an intelligent option. For example, it includes Fordās Co-Pilot 360 Assist+, which incorporates traffic sign recognition, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, a digital rearview camera, navigation, a 13.2-inch touchscreen display unit, and evasive steering assist. Another feature dubbed Tech Pack 2 ups the ante considerably. It includes Co-Pilot 360 Assist 2.0, a 360-degree monitor with Split View and front and rear washers, a safety suite featuring Reverse Brake Assist, and Intersection Assist – a component that watches for cars about to cross in front of the Escape and alerts the driver.
