Farewell to the Ford GT LM: Celebrating Le Mans Legacy

After six years of building and refreshing vehicles, bringing 1,350 vehicles to life, the Ford GT series will close out its long run with a final set of 20 GTs. The last of the series will be the Ford GT LM (Le Mans), and the vehicles will be a beautiful send-off to such an iconic series. Ford first discovered the euphoria that came with success in endurance racing by defeating a top brand like Ferrari (an achievement made in 1966 and repeated through 1969, and again in 2016 with the current series).
The Last Run of GTs
Enthusiasts and fans might be wondering what exactly the last run of Ford GT LMs will include, and Ford has not made official statements on the matter either. However, it is possible that some assumptions can be made about what it will be like to give potential buyers and fellow enthusiasts something to look forward to. Presumably, we can expect an exterior color arrangement that would introduce the iconic silver and a choice between blue or red interior trim options (something taken from the trimmings of the Le Mans-winning race car). Other parts of the vehicle can also boast the same colors, including:
- Engine louvers
- Diffuser
- Sills
- Splitter
- Various bare carbon-fiber bits of the vehicle

The seats in the cabin are allegedly made from carbon fiber and wrapped in Alcantra (other trimming options will also be available, of course). The familiar and well-loved, unique 3D-printed plaques constructed from an alloy incorporating the ground-up, melted-down crankshaft from the LMGTE Pro race car will also be accommodated in the GT LMs being produced. It is a vehicle that is a race car at its very core, wholly made from the beginning to receive endurance racing prizes and on-road plaudits.
Ford made it clear that it wants Le Mans’ success in 2016 to be celebrated 50 years after it beat Ferrari by recruiting engineering, manufacturing, and powerhouse Multimatic to design the road and race car. They will also run the vehicles Ford had registered in the World Endurance Championship while enlisting the multi-discipline race-winning Chip Ganassi Team to operate another set of vehicles in IMSA. Ford admirers can anticipate more news and updates about the last run of Ford GT LMs soon!
