Even though 2024 did not bring a fundamental reinvention of America’s best-selling vehicle and the cosmetic updates are relatively modest, this mid-cycle refresh has improved the Ford F-150 in numerous ways. For example, hybrid vehicles will now cost less, there is a more powerful base engine, onboard power supply systems are available on all variants, there is a new multi-function tailgate, and BlueCruise availability was expanded.Ā

Along similar lines, the long-anticipated, redesigned 2024 Ford Ranger is a ruggedly brash pickup truck that is not only great-looking but can also be pushed into mud or light water situations and out again. Yet, unlike its larger sibling, it is also small enough to fit into most parking spaces. If it bears a striking resemblance to the F-150, it is with good reason – it takes some styling cues from that emblematic, best-selling truck. The all-new Ford Ranger is wider and boasts a two-inch longer wheelbase, stretching 48 inches between the wheel wells.

Efficient Capabilities

The F-150 trims outfitted with the optional 400-horsepower 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine can tow a staggering 13,500 pounds. The V-8 mill with the same horsepower but 90 less pound-feet of torque, tows 500 fewer pounds. The least powerful engine, the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6, tows a respectable 12,700-pound capacity, better than most other trucks’ top capability. As is usually the case with performance trucks, the Raptor trims possess less towing capacity, coming in between 8,200 and 8,700 pounds. Moreover, the hybrid PowerBoost combines the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 with an electric motor to produce 430 horsepower.

The 2.3-liter engine in the 2024 Ranger accelerates up to 270 horsepower and generates 310 pound-feet of torque. Nonetheless, for the larger 2.7-liter V-6, the automaker declares it is tuned to produce 315 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. In other words, it would provide the same amount of torque but would lose ten horsepower. That said, the Ranger can take all that is thrown at it, whether it is snow, bright sunshine, rain, curves, or straightaways. Regardless of trim level and engine size, steering and braking are suitably sure and solid. There is minimal body roll even when pushed hard, and visibility is above average. Additionally, shifting gears is a painless, prompt endeavor via a large shift stalk as opposed to push buttons or wheels.

Interior Features and Technological Amenities

The 2024 F-150 has a roomy interior, especially in the four-door SuperCrew configuration. At the higher trim levels, they rival high-end luxury sedans, but even at the introductory level, the low-quality, plastic feel Ford vehicles were known for is gone. The shifter folds down, so the center console can become a flat workspace – with the optional fold-flat front seats, the entire cabin transforms into a camper-style sleeping area. There are also numerous convenient storage cubbies, including plenty of space under the rear seats.Ā

The most notable technological modification to the F-150 is that the once optional 12-inch touchscreen is now standard on all trims. The infotainment system runs an updated version of Ford’s Sync 4 software and comes standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and even includes a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The 2024 Ford Ranger boasts a similarly well-equipped cabin, with a 12-inch vertically oriented touchscreen available on higher trims. The Sync 4 system also offers off-road data, navigation, an available 360-degree camera, and entertainment. Of note, the software receives over-the-air updates, and Ford incorporated physical buttons around the center console for volume and climate control.
