It is a little-known fact that Sydney Sweeney spends her spare time repairing vintage cars, an activity she documents on her TikTok account, Syd’s Garage. In Sweeney’s personal hierarchy of triumphs, starring roles in critically acclaimed television shows such as Euphoria and The White Lotus are sprinkles on the proverbial sundae of being enshrined in automotive history. Now, the actress has teamed up with Ford to give one fan a custom 2024 Ford Mustang GT designed by Sweeney herself.
As someone who comes from a family of mechanics in a small town near Spokane, Washington, she learned to drive on her great-grandfather’s F-100 farm truck, a vehicle she owns to this day (2024). During the pandemic, she began restoring a cherry red 1969 Ford Bronco, before moving on to her second labor of love, a 1965 Mustang she dubbed “Britney,” becoming the inspiration for her dream vehicle with the Blue Oval to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Ford Mustang. There will only be two of the custom vehicles assembled, one for Sweeney and one for a lucky fan.
The One-Of-A-Kind Mustang
According to an official Ford press release, the sports car is described as a “blend of retro charm and a modern aesthetic,” integrating Sweeney’s “unique personal style through customized textures and embellishments.” To clarify, among the painstaking details she incorporated into the design include a Robin’s Egg Blue exterior with a crushed glass clear coat, Sweeney’s signature emblazoned on the car’s engine, sleek, 20-inch chrome rims, and color-changing LED stars across the headliner influenced by her love for nighttime drives.
Sweeney first acquired her vintage Mustang nearly three years ago in May 2021, and has slowly but surely been making progress. For example, back in December 2023, she released a video collaboration with Ford for the debut of her Ford x Sydney Sweeney workwear collection, made in partnership with Dickies, to walk viewers through a brake replacement on the automobile.
Sweeney expressed evident enthusiasm about the collaboration, declaring, “It’s heartening to see Ford celebrate individuals who are pushing past stereotypes to do what they love.” She added, “That’s why I was so excited to work with Ford on designing my dream car, and I can’t wait to surprise someone special with a matching vehicle.”
Competition Details
The contest kicked off on Tuesday, January 30 and ran through February 7, 2024. It is worth noting that the competition was hosted on Ford’s TikTok and Instagram social media platforms where participants were asked to share their personal stories of breaking boundaries, after which Sweeney selected the one that meant the most to her. A winner, however, has yet to be announced.
Laurie Transou, Ford Mustang chief engineer, shared Sweeney’s passion for the project, claiming, “Like me, Sydney is a Mustang girl. Each generation has its own distinct personality, but at their core, they embody a spirit of disruption, edge, and undeniable allure. Sydney’s interpretation of the Mustang captures this essence perfectly, reflecting the expressive and individualistic nature of those who are drawn to this iconic vehicle.”
